The greatest tragedy of life is a life wasted on self, Greatest triumph of life is a life annihilated in help.”

― Abhijit Naskar, Amantes Assemble: 100 Sonnets of Servant Sultans

A good leader is someone who leads with empathy and provides psychological safety to their team. The members of the team will respect them but not fear them. In tough times, a good leader stands their ground and leads from the front. They tackle the challenges that are set before the team and do not sacrifice their soldiers by sitting on the couch. When it’s time for battle, the leader will be in the front row, ready to sacrifice themselves for the good of others.

However, in the corporate world, a culture has developed where employees are being sacrificed for the sake of numbers and business. A healthy leadership approach is to train an employee to better themselves when there is a performance problem. An unsafe organization, on the other hand, will give no space for improvement.

A leader who does not believe in layoff as a solution for a problem in a team once said, “Will you ever lay off your child for the lack of performance?” The answer to this question is universal “NO,” but in reality, this merciless act is being performed everywhere in the name of corporate layoffs.
